Apart from luck, good or bad, it’s the actions you take in life that create the results, and it’s no different in business. If you aren’t achieving the results (effects) you want, you need to take better actions (causes). If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always got, and no business can afford to stand still.
Quite often it’s only when something major happens that business owners get motivated and take immediate action. For example, losing a regular source of income such as a big client, or when customers start using a competitor.
So how do you stop the ‘cause and effect’ treadmill you are jogging on and get things going in a better direction?
You take a good look at what you are doing (or not doing) and do something better, something that will have a positive effect on your business. Here are some tips:
- Smart businesses know who their ideal customers are and market to them exclusively. #targetmarketing
- Successful businesses will receive referrals from existing customers. If you don’t you should step up your game as you are probably doing no more than what they would expect. Only when you exceed customer’s expectations will they recommend your business to their friends. #exceedexpectations
- People buy for the reasons THEY want to buy, not yours. Think about the right marketing message, what can your product/service do for them, how can it satisfy their needs. #problemsolving
- Don’t tell your marketplace everything, make them curious. When a prospective customer emails you or calls your business, it’s because they have a question or need to know more. The more enquiries you receive the more opportunities you will have to convert them into a new customer. When your product or services don’t look much different to what your competitors are offering the less visible your business becomes. #curiosity #standoutfromthecrowd
